The Tampa Theatre
What: The Tampa Theatre is located in downtown Tampa and was built in 1926. It operates today as a theatre but also a nonprofit with the goal of preserving the theater and creative film culture.
Atmosphere: The Tampa Theatre is a hands down must-see of Tampa Bay. The history behind it alone makes it a worthy stop, not to mention the architecture. You walk in and instantly feel transported. There's a small concession stand where you can find the typical popcorn and draft beer and there are two levels of viewing. A blue dome ceiling and accent lighting makes you feel as though you're under the stars. Take a look at the photos above to see what we mean.
Events: Holding over 600 events a year, it can sometimes be difficult to keep up with all the cool things going on. Luckily they have a page on their site dedicated to everything they have coming up like movies, lectures, and live podcast screenings.
Tours: Tampa Theatre has two different tours you do that both come highly recommended. Great for any history buffs or people looking to learn more about how the Tampa Theatre came to be!
Restoration: The Tampa Theatre is set to have restorations done by the end of 2017 complete with new seating that more accurately mirrors the original design (except with more leg room and cup holders!), and a new blue and pin stripe curtain. As one of the oldest buildings in Tampa and classified historical landmark, it will be exciting to see it return to it's former glory.
